Fractional Performance Leadership

Interim or fractional Head of Performance and Search Director cover. Senior leadership, by the day or the week, for brands and agencies.

You get a senior performance leader without a full-time hire. I run your paid media and search the way a Head of Performance would: strategy, measurement, team direction and the hard prioritisation calls. One to three days a week, under your brand or your roof.

Who this is for

Brands between hires or scaling past their first marketer

You have spend going out of the door and nobody senior owning it. Maybe your Head of Performance has left, maybe you have never had one, maybe your founder-marketer has hit the ceiling of what they can hold. I step in, take ownership, and either run it indefinitely or define the role so you can hire into it.

Proof: I led search across a £20m+ portfolio as Search Director at Medialab, and have run performance for brands from Fortnum & Mason to fast-growth challengers.

Agencies needing senior search cover

Capacity crunch, maternity cover, a pitch surge, or a client that needs a safe pair of senior hands you cannot spare internally. I plug in as fractional search leadership under your brand, on white-label terms, and leave when you no longer need me.

Proof: I led a 15-person search division and spent years consulting into agencies at Croud. I know how agencies bill, pitch and panic, because I have run one.

What you get

  • Ownership of performance strategy across Google, Meta and TikTok
  • A measurement doctrine led by MER and incrementality, not last-click
  • Team direction and upskilling, so the capability stays when I leave
  • Honest prioritisation: what to stop, what to scale, what to ignore
  • Board-ready reporting your finance director will actually trust

Proof anchor

60% year-on-year Google Ads growth and Google Premier Partner status earned in February 2024, on a £20m+ paid media operation. The approach travels.

How it works

  1. Call. Twenty minutes to understand the gap and whether I am the right fill.
  2. Scope. Days per week, focus, and a 30-day notice period either side.
  3. Embed. I join your stand-ups and own the work, not just advise on it.
  4. Hand back. Capability stays with your team or your next permanent hire.

Frequently asked questions

What does a fractional head of performance cost in the UK?

It is usually priced as a day rate or a monthly retainer scoped to one to three days a week. The figure depends on scope, seniority and commitment. A fractional arrangement costs a fraction of a senior full-time hire because you buy the decision-making, not the desk. Send a brief with your budget band for a straight answer.

Fractional versus a full-time hire: which do I need?

Hire full-time when the workload is permanent and you can attract senior talent. Go fractional when you need senior judgement now, the role is still forming, or you are between hires. Many brands use a fractional lead to define the role before they recruit for it.

Day rate or retainer?

Retainer for ongoing leadership where availability matters; day rate for defined, intermittent work. Most leadership engagements settle on a retainer for a fixed number of days a week so the team can rely on me being there.

What notice and commitment is involved?

Engagements are typically scoped in three to six month blocks with a 30-day notice period either side. No long lock-ins. The point of fractional is flexibility.

Do you white-label for agencies?

Yes. I provide senior search cover for agencies under their brand, on agreed white-label terms, for capacity, maternity cover or pitch surges. Your client need not know I am fractional.
